In many African countries, Women and girls walk an average of nearly 4 miles ta day to get water, often times dirty water, to carry back to their family. Gambia, a country of 2 million located on Africa's upper west coast, is one of these countries. By providing the money for a solar-powered well in Bureng, one of gambia's villages, Linwood Covenant can lift this huge burden from their shoulders.
In past missions efforts, LCC has aided Gambia by contributing bicycles, clothing, and more that were sent in supply containers to its people. In doing so, we connected with a Gambian couple, Isatou (ice-a-to) and Pateh Baldeh, who work in Minneapolis. It is the Baldehs who, with their own money and driving passion for Gambia, fund the shipment of those containers to their home country.
It is through this connection that we began dreaming of taking our mission to the next level in ending the walk for water in Bureng. We know clean water has the ability to save lives, restore health, and improve economies. We know our church as the ability to deliver this gift. Over the Christmas Season, we are hoping you'll join LCC's support of Bureng and its people by giving towards the $7,500 cost of a solar-powered well.
We are asking you and your families to consciously, through various activities we will give you, become aware of how much water you use regularly and how often its taken for granted. Then, every time you use water, we are hoping you are encouraged to put aside a small amount of change in a bottle to be collected at a later time to go towards the well.
In John 4, Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well and offered her living water. As we love our neighbors by giving this gift of clean water, our prayer is that the good people of Gambia will also discover the Gift Giver who offers the Living Water that truly satisfies.
Do you have a desire or calling to help? We have many opportunities available to you.
